JOB SUMMARY
The NVO Kitchen Crew’s responsibilities will be sanitation and proper organization to set positions for all dishes.
This role will act as the lead for all compost and recycling needs in the kitchen and deliver meals.
Responsibilities include washing dishes, cleaning the kitchen area, removal of all waste products properly, restocking sanitary supplies, supporting kitchen staff and delivering meals.
This is a temporary, full-time, non-exempt role, based in Gerlach, NV running from April to September 2024.
The deadline to apply for this role is 5:00 pm Pacific on April 12th, 2024.
DUTIES & ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS Cleaning Responsibilities (80%) Maintain daily kitchen cleanliness, organization, and upkeep while ensuring that best safety and sanitation standards are upheld and put into practice.
Properly use and aid in the maintenance of all kitchen equipment.
Responsible for all dishes including drying and reorganizing to set positions.
Assist in cleaning tables and food storage areas including the delivery vehicle.
Leads all compost and recycling needs and removal for the NVO Kitchen; collaborates with the Waste Stream Team for proper protocols and needs.
Other Functions and Responsibilities (20%) Deliver meals to a variety of sites as needed.
Perform other duties as assigned.
LEARNING AND TEACHING Documentation - Assists in the maintenance of process documentation related to their assigned duties.
Learning – Pursues ongoing learning in their area of expertise, working to stay current on emergent knowledge, skills, and processes.
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED Ability to adjust schedule seasonally to work at the Burning Man event held in Nevada.
Familiar and able to act in accordance with Burning Man’s staff policies.
Capable of abiding by the rules and codes of conduct as described in the Nevada Operations Manual and Ranch Protocols.
Physically fit and able to lift heavy objects (minimum 50 pounds) safely; willing to get dirty.
Adaptable; able to switch from project to project quickly and easily.
A team player who is also able to work independently and without supervision.
Capable of working in an extreme environment including significant temperature changes, high winds, and low to no visibility at times.
Honest and ethical with a dedication to the Burning Man principles and behavioral standards.
Reliable, responsible, and dependable; fulfills obligations.
Open to change (positive or negative) and to considerable variety in daily tasks.
Able to accept potentially critical feedback and act calmly and effectively in tense situations.
Capable of effectively receiving and taking direction.
PREFERRED It is helpful if the candidate has previously been to Burning Man and/or is familiar with its culture.

REQUIRED LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS Valid driver’s license and a good driving record.
COMPENSATION: Individual compensation decisions are dependent on a variety of factors, including prior experience and geographical location.
The anticipated pay rate for this position is $15.
25 to $16.
50 per hour.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT Off-playa: Work is active and in the person requiring the ability to stand, lift, and bend for extended periods.
This position requires periods of heavy lifting, bending, kneeling, squatting, and climbing.
This position will be physically demanding, and requires individuals with good physical health, and endurance.
On-playa: This position requires periods of heavy lifting, bending, kneeling, squatting, and climbing.
This position will be physically demanding and requires individuals with good physical health and endurance.
Work will include the need to find and meet with department representatives who may not be in the vicinity, therefore, this could include walking or using some form of transportation.
Much of the work will be in outside weather conditions and will be exposed to fumes or airborne particles as well as possible extremes in temperature.
