JOB SUMMARY
The Black Rock Saloon Crew will support the Saloon Assistant Manager and the Saloon Manager in the daytime use and operations of the Black Rock Saloon.
This role will create and maintain a respectful, friendly, and comfortable environment where services are provided with care, taking action when necessary to prevent disorderly conduct and facility damage.
They will manage and track supplies to request as necessary.
This position will collaborate with the Saloon Manager to ensure that the facility is maintained, addressing repair needs as they occur.
Additionally, the Black Rock Saloon Crew will collaborate with the TSA team to manage the saloon's waste stream.
This is a temporary, full-time, non-exempt role, based in Gerlach, NV running from May to October, 2024.

DUTIES & ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS Facility Support (75%) Assist with the saloon's opening and daily operations, including cleaning the facility, adhering to and exercising health and sanitation best practices, and ensuring that required standards of cleanliness are met.
Create and maintain a respectful, friendly, and comfortable environment where services are provided with care and thoughtful acknowledgment is given, and accommodation provided to the different needs of guests.
Monitor guest behavior and be cognizant of the potential damage that some activities could have on the use of the facility by others.
Take action when necessary to prevent disorderly conduct and facility damage in order to maintain a sanitary, safe, and comfortable environment for the community.
Review and adhere to Saloon policies and guidelines, posting clearly visible signage of rules and behavioral standards that guests can see at the time of entrance.
Ensure the facility is in good repair, painting, addressing minor maintenance issues when possible, and reporting repairs and needs to the Saloon managers in a timely manner.
Anticipate, stay current on and track the use of supplies (e.
g.
hand soap, toilet paper, printing paper), placing pre-season requests and orders for replenishment as necessary.
Assist with maintaining the tidiness of the facility.
Collaborate and proactively work with the TSA team to coordinate trash and recycling removal.
Assist in establishing Saloon operating hours and overseeing volunteer use of the space after crews have moved to Black Rock City.
Maintain clear communication and coordination with the Saloon Manager and Assistant Manager to ensure projects are completed, daily tasks are fulfilled, and the facility is prepared and adequately stocked for operating hours.
Create and maintain a clean and organized lost and found.
Support the Saloon Manager and Saloon Assistant Manager in daily operations, making supply runs to Reno when necessary.
Collaborate with the Collexodus team to assist with the proper intake and storage of donations.
Maintain a large scope of awareness assisting with daytime crowd control, especially during long operational weekends and Restoration.
Assist with the saloon's opening at the beginning of the season and with its closing at the end of the season.
Work on projects consistent with carpentry and painting, to assist with upgrades related explicitly to facility use and maintenance.
Administrative (20%) Attend and support crew attendance at daily Morning Meetings.
Serve as a mentor, positive role model, and team leader.
Be familiar with and act in accordance with Burning Man’s staff policies.
Other Functions and Responsibilities (5%) Perform other duties as assigned.
LEARNING AND TEACHING Documentation - Assists in the creation, publishing, and maintenance of process documentation related to their assigned duties.
Knowledge sharing – Helps acculturate and educate junior staff in Burning Man culture and business processes.
Training development - Collaborates with the education team to develop training materials in their area of expertise, as requested.
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED Ability to adjust schedule seasonally and relocate for the duration of the work season.

Experienced in hospitality, ideally in a position that emphasized communicating with a high volume of users and facility maintenance.
Strong communication skills with an awareness of the need for and ability to practice discretion.
Knowledge of and willingness to practice cleaning and sanitation procedures as they apply to Saloon facilities.
Possession of excellent interpersonal skills that support strong relationships within the Saloon team and with guests.
A flexible and understanding attitude that balances the needs of people and daily practicals with care and attention.
Proactive with strong organizational skills and the capacity to accurately fulfill daily tasks and Saloon needs (e.
g.
place and track orders, accommodate individuals on a daily basis).
Reliable, responsible, and dependable; fulfills obligations.
Effectively manages own time and the efforts of the team as a whole.
PREFERRED It is helpful if the candidate has previously been to Burning Man and/or is familiar with its culture.
Experience in props, decor, and faux finishing techniques.
Valid driver’s license and a good driving record.
