R0111377 On Site Herlong, California, United States Full time Purpose and Scope: The Fuel Distribution System Operator receives, stores, transfers, and issues fuel through pipelines at main line or terminal stations, receives fuel by tanker, ships fuel by pipeline, tank car, tank truck, and barge, prepares and checks receiving or ship's documents, connects lines, grounding wires, and loading and offloading arms or hoses to pipelines; and visually inspects samples of fuel, and checks gravity and flashpoint.
Essential Responsibilities: 1.
This operator gauges tanks for water, temperature, and fuel levels, checks pumping systems for correct operating pressure or unusual noises, performs preventive maintenance and repairs on terminal systems, assists in maintenance of government-owned railroad loading and switch area, performs general housekeeping and grounds maintenance for terminal, pipeline and dock areas.

Makes periodic inspections of units to detect and correct leakage, corrosion, faulty fittings, and malfunction of mechanical units, meters, and gauges such as fuel hydrants, tank pits, distribution lines, storage tanks, turbines, pumps, and control rooms.
3.
Inspects electrical wiring, switches, and controls for safe operating condition, grounding, and adjustment.
4.
Inspects fuel receiving, storage, and distribution facilities.
Conducts preventive maintenance inspections to detect explosions, fire, and toxic hazards.
5.
Cleans storage tanks and removes and installs old or new equipment such as meter and filter installations, pipe systems, pit covers, and vents, to modify existing installations.
6.
Conducts follow-up inspection of contractor and in-house repairs and maintains records of maintenance inspections and repairs.
7.
Performs all phases of liquid fuels system maintenance including troubleshooting, repairs, and modification of installed systems.
8.
Lubricates and repacks valves; lubricates pumps; replaces gaskets and seals; corrects pumping equipment misalignment; cleans strainers and filter; services filter air separators and checks meters for correct delivery and calibration.
9.
As required, maintains chemical fuel and other systems involving high pressure and toxic gases for miscellaneous industrial activities.
10.
Participates in the testing of seams and areas suspected of leakage.
Removes corrosion and repaints surfaces.
11.
Overhauls vacuum and pressure vents, floating roof seals, hangers, and roof sumps.
12.
Uses hand and power tools such as torque wrenches, and meters, bearing and gear puller, specific gravity scales, bench grinders, hydraulic presses, pipe threading machine, cutting torch, and other test equipment.
Perform all other position related duties as assigned or requested.
Minimum Position Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required: High School Diploma or GED required Three years’ experience operating fuel distribution systems Must possess a valid driver’s license May require Haz Mat endorsement Work Environment, Physical Demands, and Mental Demands: While performing the duties of this job the employee is frequently required to walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; talk or hear; and taste or smell.
Requires climbing on ladders, scaffolding, and platforms standing, bending, and working in cramped areas; lifting and carrying tools and equipment which occasionally may weigh over 40 pounds.
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts.
The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals; outside weather conditions; extreme cold; extreme heat; risk and risk of electrical shock.
The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
