*Youth Trail Crew Leader* *Employment Type: *Seasonal (10 weeks); Full Time; Hourly *Pay Rate: *$20.

00/hr *Department: *Youth Trail Crew *Overview:* The SBTS Youth Crew is an eight week summer youth employment program that engages young people in meaningful work experiences on their local public lands.
SBTS YC members work on multi-use public trails located on US Forest Service land in Plumas, Lassen and Sierra Counties.
This program promotes awareness and appreciation of the public lands and develops an ethic of environmental stewardship and civic responsibility.
Responsibilities _Trail Building and Maintenance_ ● Instruct, support and mentor youth age 15-18 in trail building skills ● Perform trail maintenance on trails including brushing, lopping, tread repair using loppers, chainsaws, McLeods, pulaskis, pick mattocks and shovels.
● Construct drainage features using dry stone masonry ● Provides technical oversight of proper construction of drainage and that trails are built with sustainable trail techniques ● Responsible for completing daily crew log ● Responsible for adhering to established work prescription for trail building and maintenance set forth by the Trail Boss ● Actively ensures all crew members are adhering to safety procedures including but not limited to wearing PPE, delivering tailgate talks for safety meetings, reporting safety concerns to the Program Manager, and reporting all injuries to the Human Resource Department ● Create a safe and positive environment among crew members by keeping lines of communication open ● In coordination with fellow Youth Crew Leaders and Youth Crew Coordinators, lead the youth crew in pre-hitch preparation and post-hitch clean up ● Follows established protocol to ensure that project work quality remains consistent and meets SBTS standards and USFS specifications ● Maintain tools and equipment in accordance with established procedures ● Follows all employee and safety handbook guidelines ● Safely and in accordance with applicable state laws and regulations transport yourself and fellow crew members in a van to and from the project site ● Actively manage and safeguard gas credit card for vehicle _Youth Crew Leadership_ ● Provide exceptional leadership to youth trail crew members to foster an environment that supports education, efficiency and safety ● Provide training and learning opportunities to the youth trail crew members in accordance with educational standards set by the Program Manager in collaboration with Feather River College ● Maintains high morale by frequently recognizing the collective and individual successes and accomplishments of the team ● Create a safe and positive environment among crew members by keeping lines of communication open _Camp Oversight_ ● Responsible for group management at both work site and camp, focusing on group cohesion and development ● Prepares meals in cooperation with youth crew members and fellow leaders ● Provides onsite monitoring of after hours youth camp activities ● Ensures all youth crew members are accounted for at the end of each evening The job responsibilities listed above are not an exhaustive list and Sierra Buttes Trail Stewardship may ask for additional tasks to be performed as part of routine employment.
