JOB SUMMARY
The Common Shop Lead will be responsible for the Common Shop facilities and inventories at the Black Rock Station Ranch and Playa.
They will perform routine maintenance inspections of tools for wear, defects, and damage, ensuring equipment is functional and safe.
This role will issue and check-in tools and equipment to workers and maintain accurate inventory records.
They will place orders for and receive new tools into the shop organization as needed.
Additionally, the Common Shop Lead will be responsible for the organization and cleanliness of the Common Shop, ensuring a clean and safe worksite.
This is a temporary, full-time, non-exempt role, based in Gerlach, NV running from April to November, 2024.

DUTIES & ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS Common Shop (60%) Issue tools to workers, ensure that any necessary safety equipment is available for the operator(s); inspect equipment for any damage upon return, tag if needed.
Inspect inventory for defects and wear, and report any damage to the BRS Ranch Manager.
Order and receive tools and supplies as needed and approved.
Stage supplies for upcoming projects.
Schedule and perform routine maintenance, repair, and servicing tools and equipment as needed.
Maintain a safe, clean, organized shop and equipment storage area on the Ranch and the playa.
Meet daily / as needed with the BRS Ranch Manager and BRS Ranch Ops Manager.
Provide daily updates, inventory availability, and repair schedules.
Maintain Common Shop hours, be available to check out / receive materials and answer any questions.
Perform manual labor as assigned by the BRS Manager and Ranch Operations Manager per project.
Maintain the general environment and overall security, organization, and functionality of BRS.
This could include working on or actively maintaining: power, fuel, water, waste systems, structures, shops, tools, and miscellaneous storage.
Anticipate, stay current, and track the use of materials and supplies; work with the BRS Manager and Ranch Operations Manager in placing pre-season requests and orders for replenishment as necessary.
Ensure that the grounds, shops, tools, materials, and all miscellaneous storage items at BRS are correctly used, organized, safe at all times, and accessible by appropriate/approved members of the Burning Man community.
Assume responsibility for time and task completion.
Stay in contact with the manager(s), logging work and documenting notes to standards shared by the manager; proactively approach work, ask questions, raise concerns, and provide feedback on time.
Help greet and direct BRS volunteers and visitors and inform them of protocols, procedures, rules, and how to best utilize available resources.
Report any property damage and malfunctions, misuse of property, safety issues, or concerns to the BRS Manager or Ranch Operations Manager.
Support the end-of-season processes to prepare for Winter storage adequately; capture details of any repairs needed the following Spring.
Operation of heavy equipment including skid steer, mast forklift, variable reach forklift, track-hoe, tractor, and backhoe.
Ensure the safe operation of heavy equipment, including safety checks, work area safety assessment, and direction.
Documentation (30%) Create and maintain an accurate database of Common Shop inventory; update as tools are checked-out, returned, new inventory is added, damaged inventory is removed, etc.
Provide safety sheets to Common Shop users; ensure that users are capable of safely operating/using the supplies they request; escalate any concerns to the BRS Manager as necessary.
As needed, submit receipts and expense reports, ensuring complete forms and submitted on time.
Plan and execute LNT and Waste disposal plans.
Other Functions and Responsibilities (10%) Perform other duties as assigned.
Be available on the radio during assigned shifts.

QUALIFICATIONS Required Knowledge of tools and their proper use and maintenance.
Experienced in basic construction and shop practices.
Some experience interacting with clients and basic knowledge of parts/equipment and tool catalogs.
Physically fit and able to lift heavy objects (minimum 50 pounds) safely; willing to get dirty.
Clearly and concisely communicates verbally and through written correspondence.
Tailors communication to receiving party with appropriate professionalism.
Experienced and comfortable with using 2-way radios.
Maintains a respectful and polite demeanor, providing services with care and patience, offering thoughtful acknowledgment and accommodation of requests.
Working knowledge of Google products (Gmail, Docs, Sheets, Drive) and Microsoft Word and Excel.
Reliable; fulfills obligations.
Effectively manages own time.

Some of the work will be in outside weather conditions and will be exposed to fumes or airborne particles as well as possible extremes in temperature.
