*SUMMARY:*
Provide for an ongoingprogram of activities designed to meet, in accordance with the comprehensiveassessment, the interests and the physical, mental and psychosocial wellbeingof each resident.
*ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES *include the following.
Other duties may be assigned.
* Directs and organizes such activities as sports, dramatics, games, and arts and crafts to assist residents to develop interpersonal relationships, to socialize effectively, and to develop confidence needed to participate in group activities.
* Become acquainted with each residents physical abilities and disabilities, I.

, vision, dexterity, cognitive ambulation, hearing balance, etc.
; learn from him/her their feelings about their situation; collect and record, from him/her and/or family members information about his abilities and needs, background and interests.
Regulates content of program in accordance with residents’ capabilities, needs and interests.
* Identify the medically related physical, social and emotional needs of each resident.
Complete comprehensive assessment of each resident and be able to develop a plan of care which accurately identifies the resident’s needs with appropriate goals and specific actions to be taken.
* Learn from medically trained consultants, therapist, nurse or physician about the necessary precautions to be observed in working with the residents.
* Design and conduct an Activity Program which will provide opportunities for satisfying creative and purposeful things for the resident to do.
* Understand the adverse effects of institutionalization which will promote isolation sensory deprivation dependence.
Build into the program a wide variety of means to counteract these adverse effects through activities which provide opportunity for residents to experience: 1.

Opportunities toplan and implement activities * Include activities which will encourage residents to make decisions, participate in the planning and assume some degree of responsibility.
* Promote the close integration of the program and the nursing staff.
* Document each resident’s progress and response to his activity plan and his degree of participation in the program.
* Prepares progress notes for the medical record reflecting patients’ reactions and progress or regression.
* Instructs residents in therapeutic activities to enhance cognitive abilities, awareness and orientation.
* Instructs residents in relaxation techniques such as deep breathing, concentration, and other therapeutic activities, such as fantasy validation to reduce stress and tension.
* Instructs residents in calisthenics, stretching and limbering exercises, range of motion and individual and group sports.
* Counsels and encourages residents to develop and maintain leisure activities.
\\ * Organizes and coordinates special outings for residents such as parades, sightseeing, or picnics to foster community interaction, self-worth and self-esteem, reminiscence and sensory stimulation.
* Supervises and conducts in-service training of other staff members.
* Develops and maintains a budget to cover costs of operation, supplies, etc.
, by organizing fund raising activities.
(Silent auction, Flea Market, Yard Sales, Craft sales, raffles, etc.
) * Establishes a volunteer program, screen, train, assign and supervise volunteers who will assist with the Activity program.
Trains groups of volunteers and students in techniques of recreation therapy.
* Participate in staff meetings.
* Maintains compliance with all State, Federal and Corporate regulations.
* Is able to explain the purpose and the meaning of the Activity Program to the staff and community.
* Works closely with the dietary department and administrator in developing and planning staff and community affairs to promote the well being of staff morale and community good will.
* Acknowledges the receipt of donations (non-monetary) to the hospital district activity department.
* Prepares and submits requisitions for needed supplies.
* Files Grievances.
* Coordinates Resident Council meetings.
*SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:* Directly supervisesapproximately 14 volunteers in the Volunteer Program.
Carries out supervisory responsibilities inaccordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws.
Responsibilities include interviewing,hiring, and training volunteers; planning, assigning, and directing work;appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining volunteers; addressingcomplaints and resolving problems with the volunteer program.
*QUALIFICATIONS:* To perform this jobsuccessfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential dutysatisfactorily.

*REASONING ABILITY:* Ability to solve practicalproblems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where onlylimited standardization exists.
Abilityto interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, orschedule form.
*CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:* Activity Director Certificateof National Certification.

30 Hours ContinuingEducation every two years.
*OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:* Must be able to travel 40% ofthe time.
Must have skill with geriatricpatients.
