SUMMARY DESCRIPTION
Under general supervision, the Student Graduation Advocate will provide services to students of WCSD by monitoring their academic progress, accessing support services, and effectively communicate with teachers and other school staff in order to support students to remain on the pathway to graduation.
EXEMPLARY DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITES Assists school-site and district office personnel in supporting Native American/African American/Pacific Islander K-12 students to navigate the system by monitoring their academic progress in order to keep students on the path to graduation, focuses and outreaches to Native American/African American/Pacific Islander students who show early warning signs of not graduating from high school, works with school administration and counselors to identify targeted students for support, works in partnership with counselors to empower students to support their academic achievement by setting high expectations at home and understanding the child's progress with grades, credit attainment and attendance; empowers students to monitor their grades, attendance and assessments by utilizing the web-based student portal, works with school leadership including administration, teachers and counselors to provide individualized support of students.
When applicable, helps to implement the family engagement portion of the Academic Personalized Plan, may participate in various advisory group meetings, including the Title VII Parent Action Committee, and other school committees such as Professional Learning Communities or Academic Leadership Teams.
Acts as liaison between the school, home and community to promote academic support of students and enhance communication between staff, families and the community.
; connects families to district and community resources; serves as a cultural broker to help families from various cultural backgrounds to navigate the educational system; participates in ongoing evaluation efforts of both school and district family engagement initiatives; may conduct home visits relative to family engagement and other means of outreach to hard to reach families;; works with students to let them know of the resources available to their families at the school and build academic partnerships between the students, families and school site staff; collaborates with other key District personnel on family engagement such as staff from: Equity and Diversity, Title I, Special Education, Title VII, and Early Childhood Education Departments when applicable.
Methods of communication include, making and distributing posters and flyers, Connect Ed messaging, and posting on school's web site.
EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS Education/Experience: Any combination of education and experience that could likely provide the required knowledge and skills is qualifying.
A typical way to obtain the knowledge and skills would be: High school diploma or equivalent; some college experience is desirable.
AND Two (2) years experience with students or families in school, or community agencies.
Bilingual is preferred, but not required.
Knowledge of: School and district organizational structure and functioning; District and community resources as related to the position.
Skilled at: Communicating effectively with families, education personnel and various agencies and programs; recognizing and appreciating cultural differences, and maintaining respect for different cultural backgrounds; maintaining confidentiality of information; interpreting and explaining district policies and procedures as they relate to the position; preparing and giving accurate written and/or oral reports, and reviewing and interpreting the reports of others; maintaining constructive relationships with those contacted at work.
Licenses/Certificates: None Required.
Special Considerations: Must be willing and able to work a varied schedule.
Physical Demands: The work is sedentary.
Typically, the employee sits comfortably to do the work.
However, there may be some walking; standing; bending; carrying of light items, such as papers, books, or small parts; or driving an automobile.

Work Environment: The environment involves everyday risks or discomforts that require normal safety precautions typical of such places as offices, meeting and training rooms, libraries, residences, or commercial vehicles, e.

Additional Job Information This position is an 18 hour per week, One Year Only position ending June 2024.
One Year Only, Temporary, and OnCall positions are assignments for a limited duration.
These positions are grant-funded and are contingent upon continued funding.
The hiring administrator may retain incumbent for the duration of the grant without re-advertising.
INCENTIVES Eligible employees of WCSD receive different benefits depending on their scheduled hours per week.
Eligible Employees who regularly work less than 20 hours per week receive Social Security benefits, salary increases, longevity bonuses, and credit union benefits.
Eligible Employees who regularly work 20 to 24.
75 hours per week receive PERS retirement benefits, which are lifetime pension plans for public employees in various states, In addition to the benefits above.
Eligible Employees who regularly work 25 to 27.
25 hours per week receive all the benefits above except medical, dental, and vision insurance.
Eligible Employees who regularly work 27.
5 hours per week or more receive full benefits of the district, including medical, dental, and vision insurance, holiday pay, vacation pay, sick leave, life insurance, and insurance premiums for summer months.
Beginning July 1,2023: If you are enrolling in our health insurance plan and submit all proper documentation, you should know that there is no waiting period, your medical, dental, vision and life insurance will become effective on your first contracted work day.
All eligible employees also enjoy no state income tax and no Social Security deductions for most positions working 20 hours per week or more.
New employees will be fingerprinted upon hire and every five years thereafter and will have $58.
50 deducted from their first paycheck to help defray the cost of fingerprinting.
Non-licensed employees will have $58.
50 deduction when their fingerprints are completed every five years.
Fingerprint fees are subject to change.
